Students Attend FBLA Conference
On Nov. 3 and 4 over 30 FBLA members left the high school by bus for a trip to the Kalahari Resort for a state leadership workshop.
Upon arriving at the resort and checking bags, students headed to the Keynote address delivered by motivational speaker Eddie Slowikowski. FBLA state president Max Ferguson from Jersey Shore Area H.S. started the meeting by talking about the importance of business.
There were plenty of speakers and business CEOs over the two days that taught lessons to benefit student’s future careers and to help them be successful in business. In addition, there were small lessons held in conference rooms. For example, there were sessions like “SAT vs. ACT,” “Avoiding Scams and ID Theft in a Digital World,” “Major League Marketing” and more.
There was a strict dress code; girls had to wear blouses and skirts that fell below the knees and boys had to wear suits and ties. Even advisers had to follow the dress code.
Although there was such a strict dress code and students had to attend leadership workshops, FBLA members got to have fun as well. The Kalahari waterpark was lots of fun with various options for food. The waterpark stayed open Sunday night just for FBLA students, although other guests were there as well.
Freshman and FBLA member Katherine Jia said, “It was really worthwhile. I learned about a lot of things in these workshops. It was strict but fun at the same time. We got to go to the waterpark after some educational learning.”
