On Nov. 26, Mr. Christian Bonner’s science classes left the high school by bus in the middle of the school day for a field trip to One Village Coffee, a corporate coffee roaster.

Mr. Bonner always had an interest in coffee, and over the last several years, he has been doing coffee labs to teach his students about the science behind brewing it. He explained to his classes that to make good coffee, students need to know the process.

The purpose of this trip was to inform students about the process of to help them with their final project, for which students make coffee from all around the world in groups.

Over 50 students from Mr. Bonner’s class learned facts about how coffee was made at One Village Coffee. The main steps are processing, roasting and brewing.

Even though the field trip was mostly targeted for students to learn about the steps of making coffee, students also got to taste coffee from different places around the world. Everyone watched the coffee made in front of them by the director of coffee, Steve Hoffman.

Hoffman said, “ My favorite part of my job is to sample the coffee roast. Tasting through new types of  coffee is my favorite thing to do in my job, because of the new discovery and finding new flavors of coffee.”
