Teachers Wearing Red on Mondays
You may have noticed that your teachers have been sporting the color red for the past few Mondays, and there are several reasons why.
Teachers are standing in solidarity to show their support for public education. This is being promoted by the teachers’ union, which statewide is the Pennsylvania State Education Association (PSEA), and is known locally as the Hatboro-Horsham Education Association (HHEA). The union wants to focus on the value of public education.
Teachers are also showing that they are united in wanting a new contract here. The current contract expired in July 2019 and the teachers are negotiating with the school district for a new one. The president of HHEA is social studies teacher Mr. Bryan Moore and the vice-president is Spanish teacher Mrs. Sue McGorrey.
Although teachers have been wearing red every Monday, they are unsure how long it will last. “We hope it will continue throughout the year,” said Mrs. McGorrey.
Around our township, you may also see yard signs supporting the HHEA. These signs are intended to advertise for the movement throughout the district.
The Pennsylvania State Education Association (PSEA) along with the Council for Advancement of Public Schools (CAPS) are encouraging this to emphasize the positive aspects of public schools and to show the effort and care teachers put into their jobs.
