Mini-THON Changes Hands

Ah, Mini-THON! The event that brings students and staff together to play interactive games while listening to sweet tunes. The best part? It is all for the kids! For those who do not know, Mini-THON, or THON, is a student-run philanthropy organization in which all proceeds go to the battle against pediatric cancer. Our high school’s Student Council has hosted THON in years past, but this year, THON will stand as its own club.
Simply put, the Student Council could not devote the necessary amount of time to THON. When news of the possible discontinuance of THON was released at the end of last school year, students were eager to keep THON alive. Now acting as a subgroup of Teens Tackling Cancer, THON is lead by four co-presidents: Lindsey Rich, Audrey Carrell, Lexie Gill, and Angelina Spiezio. These passionate students plan to elevate THON to a new level. How exactly is still unknown.

Although the rules of the club and how to participate remain in development, students can expect similar times, dates, and locations to previous years. THON will be held in the HH gymnasium on April 25th, 2020. One of the most likely details to change is how much money our school will procure.
As of now, the club hopes to raise $20,000 at this year’s THON event. Although this goal is lower compared to that of last year’s, this target will serve as a great foundation for the beginning of the new THON club.
THON encourages participants, both old and new, to partake in an exhilarating day of games, music, food, and raising money to support children with pediatric cancer. Co-president Carrell said, “We are open to any suggestions, but we really just want to get a larger population of the school involved since it’s towards a great cause.”
Remember it is #FTK.
