Ski Trip to Killington
After finals week, the ski club had the chance to chill (literally) and ski at Killington, Vermont from Thurs. Jan 30 to Sat. Feb 1. There was fresh air, blue skies, and, of course, lots of skiing and snowboarding.
Over 60 students packed their bags and boarded the bus after they took their last finals. After about six hours on the bus, they arrived at the hotel at eight o’clock, with enough time to enjoy the pool and hang out before their first day on the mountain.
Freshman Danielle Nugent said, “The trails were just as amazing as the scenery. It was more beautiful than I ever could have imagined. It was a great escape with my friends.”
Some members had never been skiing outside of Pennsylvania. The slopes were lined with picturesque, snow-covered trees. There are seven mountain peaks and 212 slopes at Killington; people only saw each other at the lodge.
Ski Club adviser Mr. Enge said “It was a great experience to take students that have skied only in Pennsylvania out of their comfort zones and to bigger mountains. The conditions were really good. We had a great time.”
On Saturday, there was a snowboard and ski competition that was sponsored by Vans. Loud music played while experienced athletes flipped..
However, on the second day up at the mountain, the club came across a bump in the road. One of the coach buses broke down. Thankfully, they were able to fix the bus before they traveled home.
Ski Club has also gone to Elk Mountain, Blue Mountain and Jack Frost so far. They are going to Bear Creek on Feb 13, and will finish the season with Montage Mountain on Feb 29.
