Sabrina Carpenter’s star power is on the rise as she kicks off her first arena tour, ‘Short n’ Sweet,’ which I was lucky enough to attend amid the high demand for tickets. Carpenter, a pop singer known for albums like “emails i can’t send,” recently gained even more recognition by opening for Taylor Swift during the Latin American leg of the Eras Tour.
The album’s first single, “Espresso,” topped Billboard’s list as the No. 1 Song of the Summer for 2024. “Short n’ Sweet” lives up to its name with just 12 tracks, but each one is undeniably catchy, offering a mix of emotional ballads and fun, flirtatious songs.
The Short n’ Sweet Tour features a 21-song setlist, drawing from both her albums “emails I can’t send” and “Short n’ Sweet.” The concert is split up into three different parts: “The Short n’ Sweet Show,” “Sabrina After Dark,” and “Don’t Touch That Dial.”
The concert’s intro video embraces a vintage theme, with the stage designed to resemble a house. The catwalk leads to a heart-shaped platform that moves up and down. Carpenter makes a dramatic entrance, removing a towel to reveal a sparkling bodysuit. She opens the show with “Taste,” a fan favorite, boosted by its music video featuring actor Jenna Ortega.
Sophomore Zaara Hakim, who attended the concert, shared that one of her favorite parts of the event was “Sabrina switching all of her outfits.” Carpenter began the night in her signature glittery bodysuit, layering it with a sheer dress before transitioning into a sleek, long black bodysuit for the “Sabrina After Dark” section. Later, she transformed into a long glittery gown, which shortened dramatically during the performance of “Juno.”
Carpenter, a native of Quakertown, Pennsylvania, embraced her hometown pride through her wardrobe, which followed a red color scheme throughout the show. During “Espresso,” she even debuted a custom Phillies jersey, a highlight for many in the crowd. Sophomore Megan Summer appreciated this personal touch, saying she loved how “playing at Wells Fargo Center was just as special to [Sabrina] as it was for the fans attending the concert.”
Similar to singer Taylor Swift, Carpenter has her own ‘surprise song’ section of the show. She plays a game of spin the bottle to choose her song for the night. Carpenter has covered songs such as “Mamma Mia” by ABBA. For the Philadelphia show, Carpenter played her unreleased song “Busy Woman.”
Similar to Taylor Swift, Carpenter features a ‘surprise song’ section in her show. She plays a game of spin the bottle to select her song for the evening, showcasing a playful spirit. During a previous concert, Carpenter covered “Mamma Mia” by ABBA, but she treated her Philadelphia audience to a special performance of her unreleased track “Busy Woman.”
Out of all the songs performed, freshman Aliana D’Angelo, who attended the concert, cited “Dumb and Poetic” as her favorite. She appreciated the heartfelt lyrics and described the experience of listening to it in person as “magical,” especially with Carpenter’s “beautiful dress.”
Carpenter’s stage presence and thoughtfulness behind her concert is incredible. I found myself enjoying every moment of the show, especially the songs “because I liked a boy,” “Lie to Girls,” and “Coincidence.”
The “Short n’ Sweet” Tour offers something for everyone, from Carpenter’s impressive vocals and dynamic dancing to the deep yet fun lyrics of her songs. This tour will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the best arena tours of 2024.
