Yes, you read that right. On Friday, Apr. 19, Student Council hosted their 16th annual Wing Bowl Competition.
Since 2005, Student Council has been hosting Wing Bowl as a fundraiser. Joseph Grady, math teach and Student Council adviser, said, “We raise money from the event and donate it to an organization that helps our community.”
Wing Bowl funds all went to Mr. Hager’s family. “Mr. Hager and the entire PE department were always very gracious with allowing us the use of the Aux Gym to run the event. As an organization, we agreed that donating to Mr. Hager’s family was the right thing to do with the funds we raised this year,” Grady said.
Wing Bowl had to be put on hold for a few years because of the pandemic, but with the restrictions having been lifted, Wing Bowl has been back and in full swing since last year. Senior Cravan Marsden, representative from Partnership, was last year’s winner. This year, the question was if Partnership would win again and if their winning legacy could continue.
During lunch and learn, 19 contestants representing themselves and various clubs competed in a timed contest with wings that were donated from local pizzerias like Tonelli’s, Frank’s Pizza and Graeme Park Pizza. In total, the pizzerias donated 450 wings for the event.
Clubs from around the school participated in the event, including the HH advisory board, Student Council and Link Crew. School sports teams, such as wrestling, football and bowling all fielded participants in the event. Even the faculty joined in the fun, with Mr. Cummings and Mr. Harmon taking the gym floor. Students cheered on their friends and club members dressed up for the event and showed some Wing Bowl spirit by sporting matching team shirts. One person even dressed up as a chicken.
Brendan Costello from Link Crew won the event, gaining bragging rights for a whole year until the title is up for grabs again in 2025.
