Following the success of WandaVision, Disney+ and Marvel Studios have teamed up once again to bring us a new show, The Falcon and Winter Soldier. The series will follow Sam Wilson, the Falcon, played by Anthony Mackie, and Bucky Barnes, the Winter Soldier, played by Sebastian Stan, as they deal with the aftermath of Avengers: Endgame. When we last saw these characters, they were just snapped back into existence in Avengers: Endgame. Captain America went back in time to live his days with his wife Peggy Carter and returned to the present as an old man. Cap gave his famous shield to Sam Wilson, and I guarantee the series will deal with Sam realizing the importance of the shield, how symbolic it is and what it means to many people. Marvel president Kevin Feige has also implied that the series will explore the ramifications of the mantle of Captain America being given to a Black man, which is something that I am certainly interested to see addressed.

A few other characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe are returning to this series, including Baron Zemo, played by Daniel Bruhl, and Sharon Carter, played by Emily Van Camp. We last saw these characters in Captain America: Civil War when Captain America and Iron Man were feuding over the Sokovian Accords, which stated that superheroes would be able to perform their duties under governmental supervision. Baron Zemo was a villain pulling the strings throughout the film and was able to manipulate Iron Man into hating Cap. It is definitely interesting to see what his role is in the upcoming series, as it seems he will be the overarching villain. Sharon Carter was Captain America’s ally dating back to the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. I am curious to see where her allegiance lies now that Captain America is gone. I assume she will team up with Sam and Bucky to fight whoever the villain is. Another character being introduced is John Walker, played by Wyatt Russell, also known as U.S. Agent. In the comics, Walker served as a “new” Captain America after Cap hung up his shield and has had evil tendencies.

The Falcon and Winter Soldier starts streaming on Friday, March 19 and is set to be the next TV phenomenon, as it is highly anticipated by many.
