Review: WandaVision

The Disney+ original series WandaVision has become a cultural phenomenon. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has not had any content released in about an year and a half, mostly due to the pandemic. This new and unique form of Marvel has pulled many people back into the universe they know and love.

WandaVision marks the first entry of Marvel’s into the world of television. Most content from the MCU has been in film format, while this series and the upcoming Falcon and Winter Soldier series are set to start off a new trend of Marvel, with the characters from the theatrical Marvel releases coming to Disney+. Starring Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany, WandaVision is unlike anything Marvel has ever released. The show manages to blend traditional sitcoms from the past with magic and superhero substance acting as an afterthought. For example, the first episode of WandaVision paid homage to sitcoms of the 1950s such as I Love Lucy and Leave It to Beaver

The plot of WandaVision is as follows: Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, Wanda and Vision are living in a sitcom world with mystery surrounding how and why they are living in this sitcom world.

The characters Wanda and Vision have appeared in several Marvel movies before this series, but there is a twist: Vision died in the film Avengers: Infinity War. Is Vision actually dead? Was he brought back to life? Why are Wanda and Vision living in this sitcom world? Is it an actual reality or not? Is there an outside force controlling how Wanda and Vision are living? When is this season of WandaVision taking place?

There are several mysteries surrounding this season of WandaVision and that is what keeps people tuning in every Friday to see what new theories will either be debunked or confirmed. The intrigue that hooks people is very interesting, and it is fun to see how the season will end.

Marvel president Kevin Feige has done a tremendous job when it comes to connecting all of these properties involved under the Marvel banner, with characters like Iron Man, Captain America and Thor being focal characters throughout the past 23 movies. Feige has said that WandaVision connects to two other Marvel movies: Spider-Man 3, which is slated to release in December 2021, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which is slated to be released in March 2022.

Spider-Man 3 is currently in production, with several rumors revolving around the cast. People believe Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, the actors who have played Spider-Man before Tom Holland, will both return playing different versions of Peter Parker. Also, Wanda has been confirmed by Feige to appear in the Doctor Strange sequel. It is cool to know that we will see the character appear in another Marvel property, but one thing about the series is for sure: the ending to this season will be integral to the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

I recommend WandaVision because of how fun and intriguing it is to try and solve the questions that everyone around the globe has been asking regarding the show. I have been enjoying creating my own theories and seeing which are correct or not. Every episode of the show gives viewers something new.

WandaVision episodes are released every Friday on Disney+.
